What to expect on this stage
This is the longest stage between Póvoa de Varzim and Viana do Castelo, and the first to leave the coast behind. From Esposende, the route heads inland through a string of quiet villages, forest paths and a couple of short climbs, before dropping down to the Lima River at Darque. It ends with one of the most memorable moments on the whole Portuguese Coastal Camino: crossing the Eiffel Bridge into Viana do Castelo's historic centre. Since it's noticeably longer and hillier than the stage before it, it's worth arriving well rested — get a good night's sleep in Esposende first.
